In short: the PDF tools run entirely on your device, your files are never uploaded to us, and AI chat sends your text straight to the provider you choose with your own key. We keep no copies of your documents. To keep the app free we use analytics and ads, with consent collected where the law requires it (see section 5).
1. Privacy-first by design
PDF Toolkit is built so your files stay yours. The PDF utility tools run entirely in your browser, which means your documents are processed on your device and are never uploaded to, stored on, or seen by our servers.
2. Information we do not collect
We do not collect, transmit, or retain the contents of any file you open with the utility tools. Merging, splitting, editing, converting, compressing, and securing all happen locally.
3. Data stored in your browser
If you enter an AI provider API key, it is stored only in your browser’s local storage on your own device so you don’t have to re-enter it. It is never sent to us. You can remove it at any time by clearing the field or your browser storage.
4. AI features (bring your own key)
When you use the AI chat or AI tools, your selected document and your prompt are sent directly from your browser to the AI provider you choose (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google) using your own API key. That data is handled under the chosen provider’s privacy policy. We act only as a pass-through and do not retain a copy.
5. Cookies, analytics, and advertising
To keep PDF Toolkit free, we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (for example, which tools are popular) and Google AdSense to show ads. These services may set cookies or similar identifiers on your device.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet. These services never receive the contents of the files you process — only standard, aggregated usage and device information.
Where the law requires it — including the European Economic Area, the UK, and Switzerland — these cookies load only after you consent through the consent banner shown on the site, and you can change or withdraw your choice at any time. You can also opt out of personalized advertising via Google Ads Settings or www.aboutads.info. Aside from these services, we use only the minimal local storage described above (such as your theme preference and API key) to make the app work, and we never sell your data.
6. Offline caching
To work quickly and even without a connection, the app may cache its own pages and assets on your device using a service worker. This caches only the application itself — never the documents you open. You can clear it any time from your browser’s site settings.
7. Security
Because processing is local, the most sensitive data never leaves your machine. For the AI features, traffic to providers is sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. No system is perfectly secure, so please use the tools on documents and devices you trust.
8. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date below.
